12th Meeting of the Finance Theory Group
University of Maryland, College Park, MD
May 1-2, 2015
The Finance Theory Group(link is external) conference at the University of Maryland Smith School of Business, May 1-2, 2015, is organized by Nicolae Gârleanu(link is external) (UC Berkeley) and Rich Mathews (University of Maryland). A map of the location (Van Munching Hall, College Park, MD) can be found here(link is external). Presentations are 1 hour each, with questions from the audience throughout.
If not registered already, members and fellows should send an email to FTG_Maryland@rhsmith.umd.edu(link sends e-mail) indicating (1) whether they will attend the Saturday meeting, and (2) whether they will participate in dinner (at various locations in Washington, DC) on Friday evening.
Logistics:
All of the three DC area airports (DCA, IAD, BWI) are within reasonable taxi distance (30 to 45 minutes) from College Park. However, DCA is likely to be the most convenient (it is the closest airport to College Park, and also has direct Metro access to downtown DC where dinner will be held).
For lodging, you can choose to stay in DC (close to dinner; 35 minutes drive to College Park), or near College Park. If you plan to stay in DC, you should use the usual travel websites to find a hotel that suits you. We would suggest Northwest DC (roughly, between 6th St. NW and 25th St. NW from east to west, and between R St. and Constitution Ave from north to south) as the most convenient and popular area.
If you prefer to stay near College Park, special conference rates have been arranged for the College Park Marriott Hotel and Conference Center(link is external), about a 10 minute walk from Van Munching Hall (see walking directions here(link is external)). To get the special rate of $149 per night call 301-985-7300 and use the event code “UMD Conference,” but note that you must book by April 9. If the block fills up, another nearby (but not walking distance) option is the Greenbelt Marriott(link is external).
If you stay in DC, the best option for getting to College Park on Saturday will be via taxi (a good address to give a taxi driver is 7621 Mowatt Ln, College Park, MD 20740). The Metro does have a College Park station, but it is approximately 1.5 miles from Van Munching Hall, and there is no direct shuttle service. If you are driving, visitor pay parking is available at the Mowatt Lane Garage (see map(link is external)), very close to Van Munching Hall.
