Though there are numerous studies about economic cycles, such issue remains high importance. In addition, the economic and financial globalization has substantially increased the risks of such cyclical fluctuations as well.
This year’s conference marks the 120th anniversary of economist Nikolai Kondratieff´s birth, as well as the 90th anniversary of the publication of his Mirovoye khozyaistvo i ego conyunktury vo vremya i posle voiny [The World Economy and its Conjunctures during and after the War] (Vologda, 1922), where he first spelled out the idea of long cycles, which is known as Kondratieff cycles or Kondratieff waves (or K-waves for short) later.
The conference will also address issues of global trends and globalization with both national and supranational, group and world interests. Global changes are forthcoming, but not all of them will take a distinct shape. One may say that these will be such changes that could prepare the world for the transition to a new phase of globalization whose contours are unclear yet. All these determine the importance of the discussion of the current processes, which can be analyzed from various angles and with respect to various geographical regions, as well as the importance of activities in the realm of the global forecasting.

In this year´s conference program, beside keynote speech by world-class economists and concurrent sessions by contributed authors, we plan to host two summit forums, one for world´s famous academic associations and one for world´s famous academic journal editors. Both of these two summit forums will address the development, coorpertion and publication in the study of globalization, international trade, as well as international finance. We are also seeking for the opportunities of publishing Selected conference papers in referred journals as special issues.

This year, the conference will be held in Chengdu, Sichuan, China. Over 14 million in population according to the 2010 census and flight time of 2 hours from Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong, the city of Chengdu is the gateway to major southwest China tourist attractions and ranked very high among the most livable cities in China. Among its own top attractions are spicy cuisine (especially hotpot), tea drinking life style and natural beauty abounds in surrounding areas. For more information about Chengdu, please visit:

In the last day of the conference, local site visit will be arranged. Two possible destinations are Dujiang dam as well as the surrounding reconstruction achievements from the 2008 Wenchuan Earthquake, and Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research Center which is home to many giant pandas.

Conference participants with paper will be charged a registration fee of USD 100.00 or RMB 600.00 (participants from universities in Chengdu will be waived for this fee), and participants without paper will be charged a registration fee of USD 300.00 or RMB 1800.00, paid on site. This registration fee will cover conference materials, meals, some local transportation, as well as orgnized site visit. Please note that the travel cost to Chengdu and local accomodation will not be covered. However, we will help the conference participants be accomodated in a hotel near SWUFE´s Liulin Campus with discounted rate, which is aroud RMB 280.00 per night. If the conference participants are willing to stay longer in chengdu and visit more tourism sites, we will help them contact local travel agencies but the associated cost needs to be paid by their own.
