Call for Papers for the International Conference on Self-governance, Polycentricity and Development
The theory of the relationship among self-governance, polycentricity and sustainable development is an unparalleled contribution by the Blooming School, led by Professor Elinor Ostrom and her husband Vincent Ostrom. During the past four decades, Professor Ostrom and her colleagues have built a global network for studying self-governance, polycentricity and development based on their in-depth teacher-student collaborations in theoretical explorations on social practices in diverse institutions and cultures.
Since 1990s, publishers in mainland China have published the Chinese versions of their many books such as Governing the Commons: the Evolution of Institutions for Collective Action (by Elinor Ostrom) andThe Political Theory of a Compound Republic (by Vincent Ostrom), which have been read by a large number of researchers in various disciplines during the past 10 years. Furthermore, based on Ostrom’s work, Chinese scholars have developed their own theories and theoretical frameworks in diverse fields such as political science, economics, public administration and public policy.
In 2011, Professor Elinor Ostrom, the co-winner of the 2009 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences, will visit China again and attend the International Conference of on Self-governance, Polycentricity and Development. We believe that this teacher-student conference will promote the bloom development of theoretical studies relevant to its topics.
