Abstract of Speech
The silicon chip is not only a symbol of marvelous technologies that are transforming industrial production and leisure time in society, but also of trade and technology conflicts between countries.
The purpose of this presentation is to explain the reversals in competitiveness between the USA and Japan and to show that the semiconductor industry has moved from being highly confrontational in terms of strategic trade policy to being much more cooperative in terms of strategic alliances. Furthermore the position of Europe will be highlighted as well as the situation in Asia including China. Finally, current developments and expectations for the future of this sector will come to the fore.
The final conclusion is that in the future the model for the semiconductor companies will be competition with collaboration: "colla-petition".
