1. Strategic Management: Historical Roots, Current Trends and Emerging Challenges
战略管理研究的历史起源，目前趋势以及未来挑战
This seminar traces the intellectual foundations of strategic management research, and noted earlier efforts in mapping and defining the scope of strategic management as an academic discipline. It then attempts to review significant current trends in this important and increasingly well defined area of research. Finally the seminar ventures into the unknown by exploring emerging challenges the academic community faces by linking fundamental research questions with evolving global socio-economic reality.
2. Towards a Model of Strategic Complexity and Simplicity
建立一个复杂反应与精炼整合为核心的战略模型
This seminar presents my recent intellectual exploration (together with collaboration with colleagues in various areas) of a newly defined area of research extending the traditional definition of strategy. The central theme of this research – hence this seminar – is that Chinese firms may develop a coherent strategy that combines strategic response complexity and strategic synthesis simplicity as they cope with a complex and evolving institutional environment while utilizing basic tenets of Chinese cultural values in doing so. Those firms that are able to develop such an innovative strategic approach may then be in a position to enjoy significant competitive advantages. During the seminar I will also examine the theoretical and empirical challenges in developing such a model.
