China’seconomy and its energy use are rarely out of the headlines.　From theNew Normal and energy reform, to world leading investment inrenewables coupled with on-going pollution concerns, China’sachievements have been remarkable but its challenges remaindaunting.

Inthis seminar, we seek to discuss the links between China’s economicgrowth and its energy use.　In Part 1, we ask the question of howenergy is used across China’s economy, and by households.　In Part2, we look at China’s investment in renewables, how it may benefitfrom the ongoing reforms, and some of the challenges that must stillbe dealt with to help China effectively transition to a low carboneconomy.



Eachsession will start with two short presentations, before we welcome anactive discussion with the floor.　All presentations will be made inChinese.

中国的经济和能源消费一直是大家关注的焦点。从新常态和能源改革，到引领全球的可再生能源投资和持续的环境污染问题，中国已经取得了非凡的成就，但也面临诸多难题。

我们希望借此次研讨会讨论中国经济增长和能源消费之间的关联。第一部分中，我们会探讨中国经济以及家庭如何使用能源的课题。第二部分中，我们聚焦中国可再生能源的投资，探讨其如何在正进行中的能源改革中受益，以及在中国有效过渡到低碳经济过程中所面对的一些挑战。

每一个议题包含两个简短的主题演讲以及专题小组讨论会，我们欢迎与会者就该议题进行积极的讨论。所有的演讲都以中文的形式进行。

TheLink Between Energy and the Economy: Higher than Expected GDP Growth

DrHu Zhaoguang was the former vice president and chief energyspecialist at China’s State Grid Energy Research Institute.　Forover 26 years he has worked on electricity economics, smart grids,power markets, demand side management, integrated resource strategicplanning (IRSP) and renewable generation.　He has received a SpecialContribution Award from the Chinese government and has published morethan 99 papers in journals and 10 books with other co-authors.

胡兆光

电力市场首席专家，中国电力企业联合协会

胡兆光博士曾任国家电网能源研究院副院长和首席能源专家。从事电力经济、智能电网、电力市场、需求侧管理、综合资源战略规划和可再生能源发电等领域研究超过26年。他曾获政府特殊贡献津贴，在国内外报刊杂志、学术会议发表论文99余篇，合著书籍10余本。


胡竞秋

IncomeGrowth:　North-South Weather and the Demand on District Heating

HuJingqiu is a Research Associate at the School of Economics, RenminUniversity of China.　Her research interests include: reform ofChina’s state power system; residential energy consumption andcarbon emissions in China; and district heating in Southern China. She holds an MA in Science from Valparaiso University, and a BA inEconomics from Sichuan University of China.

Professor,North China Electric Power University

China’sRenewable Energy in the Context of the On-going Power Sector Reform

ZhangSufang is a professor at the School of Economics and Management,North China Electric Power University (NCEPU); the Director of theInstitute for the Low Carbon Economy and Trade of the NCEPU; anenergy policy consultant of the Asian Development Bank (ADB); and aresearch fellow at the Research Center for Beijing EnergyDevelopment.　She has published several papers in leading journalsand recently researched institutional constraints to renewableenergy.

张素芳

教授，华北电力大学

现行电力改革背景下的中国可再生能源

张素芳是华北电力大学经济和管理学院的教授，低碳经济与贸易研究所所长，亚洲开发银行（AsianDevelopmentBank）能源政策顾问，北京能源发展研究基地研究员。在顶尖学术期刊发表过多篇论文，近期研究中国可再生能源的体制约束。

TheProblem of Curtailment: Challenging China’s Renewable Ambitions

ZhangLiutong is a senior manager at The Lantau Group.　He has worked ondetailed province-level analyses of China’s energy sector,including renewables, thermal power, infrastructure, and the gassector.　He advises clients on renewable curtailment, opportunitiesfor hydro-power, and the economics of coal-fired power plants.　Heregularly presents in energy briefings and conferences, and is calledon by journalists from Reuters, Platts and other recognized media.
