据世界计量经济学会（Econometric Society）最新消息，由Costas Meghir、Elhanan Helpman和Alessandro Lizzeri组成的三人评审小组将2016年弗里希奖颁给了三位美国经济学家，他们分别是加州大学伯克利分校经济系助理教授Benjamin Handel，西北大学经济系教授Igal Hendel，麻省理工学院经济系教授Michael Whinston。
三位研究者凭借2015年发表在《计量经济学杂志》（Econometrica）的一篇论文，摘取了2016年弗里希奖的桂冠。在这篇题为《健康选择中的均衡：逆向选择vs风险再分类》（Equilibria in Health Exchanges: Adverse Selection versus Reclassification Risk）的论文中，研究者用个人健康选择和医疗报销层面的面板数据进行实证分析，在医疗选择中发现了逆向选择的证据。评委会认为，这篇文章通过实证分析为人们权衡医疗保险及关键问题提供了框架。文章发表后，很快被《健康经济学评论》（Health Economics Review）及《经济理论杂志》（Journal of Economic Theory）等引用。
弗里希奖为纪念数量经济学和计量经济学先驱拉格纳·弗里希（Ragnar Frisch）而设立，每两年评选一次，获奖作品被视作《计量经济学杂志》（Econometrica）在过去五年最好的应用文章。1978年，首届弗里希奖颁给了2015年诺贝尔经济学奖得主Angus S. Deaton；2016年，弗里希奖正好成功评选出20届，其中一些人凭借这些文章斩获诺贝尔经济学奖和克拉克奖。
