2003年1月24日应邀在香港岭南大学经济系做了“Growth-Investment Nexus in Post-Reform China”的学术报告。
2003年9月6-11日出席在匈牙利首都布达佩斯举行的“新制度经济学国际协会”（ISNIE）的年会以及“罗纳德.科斯研究所”（RCI）主办的制度分析方法研讨班。
2003年9月25-26日应韩国总统首席政策顾问，韩国发展经济学协会主席李廷雨博士的邀请出席在汉城举办的韩国发展经济学协会的年会并做了“Restructuring State Enterprises in China”的嘉宾演讲。
2003年10月22-25日出席在法国Clermont-Farrand市的CERDI举办的第4届中国经济国际会议并在会上做了 “Investment Efficiency and Growth in China: An Assessment” 的演讲。
2003年11月11-13应邀在韩国大田市举办的“21世纪东北亚的经济与技术合作”的国际会议并在会上做了首场报告“Economic Integration in Northeast Asia: Issues and Prospects”。
2004年1月15-17日应邀出席日本经济产业研究所（RIETI）主办的“寻找新秩序的亚洲”的国际研讨会。还应邀在日本法政大学和一桥大学做了学术两场报告。
2004年3月10-12日在印度新德里参加了由印度“中国研究院“（ICS）和复旦大学中国经济研究中心（CCES）联合主办的国际会议“中国经济改革25年”(Twenty Five Years of Economic Reform in China)。
2004年7月5日应邀在韩国汉城参加“中国留美经济学会第三次访韩国际学术会议”(International Conference Commemorating the 3rd Visit of CES to Korea)并做关于中国经济增长与投资效率的学术报告。
2004年7月20-23应邀在日本东京的早稻田大学参加以“亚洲共存”(Co-Existence of Asia) 为主题的远程教学录像，分别是“How China Integrated with the World Economy”和“Can China Sustain its Economic Growth？。在东京期间应邀在著名的青山学院(Aoyama)“中国经济协会”做了学术报告 “Current Overheating in China”。
2004年10月28-30日应邀在香港中文大学经济系做了“Re-estimation of China’s Provincial Capital Stock Series:1952-2000”的学术报告。
2005年3月11日应邀在香港科技大学经济系做了英文报告“Capital Formation and Economic Growth in China”。
2005年3月21-22日应邀在伦敦Middlesex University参加英国中国经济学会(CEA)主办的“China Dynamics: Past, Present and Future”的主题年会并在开幕式后用英文做了“Can China Grow Faster?”的演讲。
2005年3月23日上午在伦敦应邀在英国外交部新闻发言局（Foreign Press House）外交政策中心(Foreign Policy Centre) 主办的“2020年的中国和印度”报告会上做嘉宾主讲人（另一位为印度学者），就中国和印度的经济发展模式以及未来的发展前景做了英文演讲，之后回答了在场人员的提问。英国卫视做了现场转播和采访。
2005年4月7-12日应邀赴澳大利亚参加在布里斯班举行的“澳中经济高峰论坛”并在会上用英文做了“Remarks on China’s Financial Reforms”的报告。
2005年7月20日-9月30日应邀到芬兰赫尔辛基的联合国大学经济发展国际研究院（UNU/WIDER）从事研究工作。
2005年9月28日应邀在赫尔辛基大学经济学院（ECONOMICUM）的系列讲座“Macroeconomics and Development Seminar”上做了“Growing China’s Economy”的学术讲座。
2005年10月4日上午应邀在芬兰银行转型研究所（BOFIT）做“The Existence and Measurement of Financial Deepening-Productivity Nexus”的学术报告。
2005年10月31-11月3日应邀在英国出席威尔顿庄园会议（Wilton Park Conference）并在会议上做了“Making them Cheaper: The Impact of China Rise on Globalization”的英文讲演。
2005年11月7-8日应邀在新加坡出席由南非Brenhurst基金会和新加坡南洋理工大学国防与战略研究所（IDSS）联合主办的国际会议“Globalization and Economic Success: Policy Options for Africa”。
2005年12月12-14日应CASA ASIA之邀赴西班牙参加在巴塞罗那举行的“第3届亚洲论坛”(III Forum Asia)并在会上做“Understanding China Economic System: Getting Incentives Right”的演讲。
2006年4月27-29日应邀在美国芝加哥大学参加了由Chicago Society和Center for East Asian Studies主办的国际会议“China and the Future of the World”并在会上做了“Politics and China‘s Growth from Below”的演讲。
2006年11月7-9日应邀出席在新加坡香格里拉饭店举行的国际会议“South Asia in the Global Community：Towards Greater Cooperation and Collaboration。会议由ISAS, National University of Singapore 举办。在会议上做了“China and India: Why Do They Should Learn from and Trade with Each Other?”的演讲。
2006年11月10-15日应邀出席在埃及开罗Marriott Cairo酒店举行的“全球化与经济成功：非洲的选择”（Globalization and Economic Success: Policy Options for Africa）国际会议并发表专题讲演“Triggering Economic Growth in China: What Have We Known?”。会议由非洲Brenthurst 基金会和埃及的Konrad-Adenauer Foundation基金会资助。来自世界银行和欧美、亚洲以及非洲等各国的经济学家出席了会议。
2006年12月16-17日应邀在韩国汉城的高丽大学（KOREA UNIVERSITY）访问，出席日本早稻田大学发起的E-LEARNING项目的会议。
2006年12月19-22日应邀在日本东京帝国饭店出席由IDE举办的“The Rise of the BRICs”国际会议并以嘉宾的身份发表“Making Growth Happen in China”的主旨演讲。
2007年3月2-3日应邀在澳门大学参加“中国经济增长：原因与前景”的学术研讨会并做“Triggering Economic Growth in China”的嘉宾报告,出席会议的嘉宾还包括两个诺贝尔经济学奖获得者Douglas North和James Mirrles以及伦敦经济学院的许成钢教授等。
2007年4月13日应邀参加Brookings Institutions在华盛顿举行的Asia Economic Panel（AEP）的会议并担任评论，评论文章Comments on Asia’s Financial Crisis” 收入会议文集将由美国MIT出版社出版。
2007年4月16-17日在英国Nottingham大学出席留英中国经济学会第18届年会并在全体会议上发表了嘉宾讲演“Political Governance and China’s Economic Performance”。
2007年5月27日-8月13日赴加拿大女王大学作访问学者。
2007年9月7-8日应邀在芬兰赫尔辛基出席联合国大学经济发展世界研究院(UNU-WIDER)举行的国际会议“South Engines of Economic Growth”。在会议上发表报告“China Economic Growth: Trajectory and Evolving Institutions”。
2007年9月15-16日参加CEA（UK）与CCES共同举办的国际会议“转型与增长：政府、市场与政策”，来自欧洲和美国、日本等经济学家50多人参加了会议。 在会议上用英文报告了论文“Term Limit and Rotation of Chinese Governors: Do They Matter to Economic Growth?”。
2007年10月16-18日应邀在韩国大邱出席“2007 NEAR International Economic Forum”论坛并做嘉宾讲演“Northeast Asia Economic Integration： Economic Rationality and Political Wisdom”。该经济论坛由韩国东北亚地区政府联合会秘书处（NEAR）和庆尚北道联合主办。
2007年11月4日-5日应邀在韩国首尔出席首届“中国论坛”(China Forum)并与诺贝尔经济学奖获得者Robert Mundell教授担任嘉宾演讲人。在韩国期间还与韩国的政府官员、著名企业家等见面。5日下午还接受了韩国著名的报纸《每日经济报》（Maeil Business Newspaper）的专题采访和韩国电视台的专访。
2007年11月6-7日应日本瑞穗研究所（Miruho Research Institute）的邀请出席在日本东京经团连会馆举行的Mizuho Global Seminar并作为中国的经济学家在论坛上发表了英文演讲“Why China Welcomes Globalization”。
2007年12月3日-7日应台湾中央研究院人文社会科学研究中心（RCHSS）主任瞿婉文教授的邀请，3日经香港飞台湾进行学术交流。在台湾大学和“中央研究院”分别做了“中国经济改革30年”和“官员的任期限制、异地交流和经济增长：来自省级数据的证据”两场学术报告。
2008年2月25-27日应新西兰奥克兰大学孔子学院(Confucius Institute, University of Auckland)的邀请，在奥克兰大学会议中心隆重举行的纪念孔子学院成立一周年的“周年公开讲座”(Anniversary Public Lecture)上用英文发表了主旨演讲“Thirty Years of Transformation: What is Special about China’s Economic Experimentation”（转型三十年：中国经济实验的独特方式）。新西兰大学常务副校长Chris Tremewan教授主持了讲座，来自新西兰大学的教师、学生，在奥克兰的实业界、新西兰商会、政府部门以及中国驻新西兰大使馆和奥克兰领事馆的官员等100多人出席了演讲会。
2008年3月-4月耶鲁大学访问学者。
